Ubuntu: Clean up home directory - how it works
If you often work with Ubuntu, unnecessary things can accumulate in the home directory over time. The keyword here is tidying up and with our tips it is not that difficult.
Clean up the Ubuntu home directory with the fslint utility
Install the fslint utility with the following command "sudo apt-get install fslint".
- Then open fslint. You can find it in the applications and by typing "fslint" in the top left of the search window.
- Enter your home directory in the fslint window at the top under search path, eg "/ home / your-name".
- For example, mark at the top left. "Duplicates" and then click on "Search" in the lower left corner. Categories such as "Installed packages" or "Temporary files" are also available.
- Then click on "Select" and mark all found files with "Invert selection". Use the "Delete" button to remove the unnecessary files.
Ubuntu: Correctly remove unnecessary applications and packages
Errors often occur during package installation and uninstallation. The incomplete installations then hide in the vicinity of your hard drive and take up space.
- In the terminal, type the command "sudo apt-get autoclean".
- If there are still unnecessary dependencies between packages and programs, remove them with the command "sudo apt-get autoremove".
- The best way to remove applications that are no longer required is to use the following command: "sudo apt-get autoremove program name". Instead of "program name" enter the name of the application.
