Ubuntu: Update Java - how it works
In this practical tip, we explain how to update Java on Ubuntu. Incidentally, you will not receive update notifications under Linux. Therefore, you need to check your Java version first.

Open a terminal window and enter "java -version".
- Compare the information with the current Java version.
- If your version is out of date, you can start an update.
Update Java under Ubuntu
To carry out the update, open the first terminal window.
- Type the following command without quotes "sudo add-apt-repository ppa: webupd8team / java".
- Then run "sudo apt-get update" and get the installer via "sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer".
- In the terminal, confirm with the Enter key as soon as a "" is displayed on the screen.
- Then confirm the license agreement to start the installation. This process takes a while.
