Ubuntu: Perform kernel update - how it works
New kernel updates usually include a variety of new drivers that make your system run more stable. This practical tip shows you how to update the kernel under Ubuntu.
Ubuntu: Perform kernel update
A kernel update is done in Ubuntu thanks to its simple package management with two commands:
- Right-click on the desktop and select "Open Terminal".
- Now enter "sudo apt-get update" to update the package lists.
- After the command has run through, you must enter "sudo apt-get upgrade".
- Now all installed packages are updated to the latest version. If a kernel update is available for your system, it will be installed automatically.
- After a successful kernel update, you will then be asked to restart your system.
