Ubuntu: Set up Minecraft server - how it works
You can set up a server for the popular construction game Minecraft on Ubuntu in just a few steps. In this practical tip, we will show you how to do this.
Set up Minecraft server on Ubuntu
To set up a server on Ubuntu, you must first install Java and then the Minecraft server program. To do this, proceed as follows:
- First, right-click on the desktop and click on "Open Terminal".
- Now install Java with the command "sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jre".
- You will then need to download the server program from the Minecraft website.
- Move the game to a folder of your choice such as "~ / Games".
- Now change to this folder with "cd games" and start the server with "java -jar minecraft_server.1.9.jar".
- When starting for the first time, the server creates the necessary configuration files and then aborts with an error message.
- Now open the license terms with "gedit eula.txt" in the Minecraft order and replace the last line with "eula = TRUE".
- Now you can start the server with "java -jar minecraft_server.1.9.jar". By default, the server can now be reached at your computer's IP address and port 25565.
