Enlarge partition on Ubuntu: GParted helps
To enlarge a partition under Ubuntu, you must first download and install the "GParted" program. To do this, proceed as follows:
- Open the terminal. To do this, right-click on the desktop and select "Open Terminal".
- Now install "GParted" with the command "sudo apt-get install gparted".
- Ubuntu now automatically downloads and installs the required packages.
Use GParted to enlarge a partition on Ubuntu
After you have installed "GParted", you can use the program to enlarge your partition:
- Enter the command "sudo gparted" in the terminal.
- Once you have entered your password, you can start using the program.
- Now right-click on the partition you want to enlarge and select "Resize / Move".
- Select the new size and complete the process by clicking on "Change size".
- Attention: Some file systems can only be expanded offline, i.e. unmounted. These include ReiserFS, NTFS and FAT. To unmount them before editing, you only have to right-click on the "Unmount" partition in the "GParted" window.
