Ubuntu: Change root password - how it works
If you want to change the root password under Ubuntu, you only need the appropriate command for the terminal. In this article we will help you further and show you the individual steps in our instructions.
Change root password on Ubuntu
- Simultaneously press the keys [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [T] to open the terminal.
- Enter the command "sudo passwd root" here and confirm with the [Enter] key.
- You will now be asked for your password with which you can log in to your user. Confirm this entry with [Enter].
- In the next step you have the option to set the root password. If you then repeat the entry again, the password will be changed.
