Ubuntu Traceroute: All information about the command
This practical tip shows you how you can use the "traceroute" command on Ubuntu.
Ubuntu: "traceroute" - All information about the command
If you haven't already done so, you must install the traceroute package using the sudo apt-get install traceroute -y command.
- Now you can use the “traceroute x” command to trace the route through the Internet to a specific server. You replace the "x" either with an IP address or a domain.
- For example, if you enter "traceroute google.com" once, you will see which way the signal travels to the Google server. You will probably even pass over 10 stations.
- First, the signal needs to go to your router. It then hikes over several nodes to the Google network and then to the respective server.
- With the command you can see not only the intermediate stations, but also their IP addresses.
- It also shows how long it takes to send data. If you live near a junction, you should be faster than others.
