Ubuntu: Remove orphaned packages - how it works
We explain how to remove orphaned packages in Ubuntu in this guide. All you need is a small additional tool. However, be careful when deleting the found packages, we will show you the exact steps.
Ubuntu: Detect and remove orphaned packages
Install the additional program deborphan. With the command "sudo apt-get install gtkorphan" you start the installation process.
- Open the program at the top left using the search field by typing "gtkorphan" and clicking on the program found.
- Alternatively, enter "sudo gtkorphan" in the terminal.
- You will see orphaned and non-orphaned packages in two lines.
- Be careful now. Make sure that the packages you want to delete are really no longer needed.
- Mark the respective packages (tick the boxes next to them) and click on "OK" at the bottom right.
- Finally, confirm with "Yes".
