Ubuntu: Set up Wake on LAN - how it works
In order to set up Ubuntu Wake on LAN under Linux, you have to consider a few small things. We have the exact procedure for you in this practical tip.
Set up Wake on LAN on Ubuntu - so it'll work
- Start the system and log in to Ubuntu as an administrator.
- Open the terminal and enter the command "sudo apt-get install ethtool" and confirm with [Enter].
- You will now be asked whether you want to install the "Ethernet Tool" package. Confirm this with the [y] key and the installation begins.
- After installation is complete, start setting Wake on LAN by entering "sudo ethtool eth0".
- If you use another network adapter, replace "eth0" with the respective name of the network card. We'll show you how to find out the name of your Ubuntu network card here.
- "Wake on:" must be marked with "g" in the output for the function to be activated.
- If this is not the case, switch it on with "sudo ethtool -s eth0 wol g".
