Ubuntu: Set up WiFi network connection
In this practical tip, we explain how to set up a WiFi network connection in Ubuntu. If your WLAN card is not recognized, you are probably missing two packages.
Network settings: connect to network under Ubuntu
- Go to the system settings via the gear icon on the left in the Ubuntu toolbar.
- Click here in the "Hardware" section on "Network".
- Activate WLAN there by turning the controller to the right to "On".
- The various networks now appear under "Wireless".
- Click on your network and enter your network password under "Legitimation for radio network is required". Confirm with "Connect".
Ubuntu: WLAN card is not recognized
If your WLAN card is not recognized and you cannot set up WLAN network connections, install the packages wireless-tools and wpasupplicant.
- Execute the command "sudo apt-get install wirless-tools wpasupplicant" (without quotes) in the terminal.
- If your WLAN card is a PCMCIA card, you should also install the pcmciautils package.
