Ubuntu: Create ZIP files - how it works
On Ubuntu, you can either create ZIP files via the terminal or via the menu that is available by right-clicking in the file browser.
Ubuntu: Create ZIP files - via terminal or menu!
In advance you should install the ZIP archive manager via "sudo apt-get install zip" via a terminal window (without quotes). Then simply create a file by right-clicking on it and choosing "New Folder".
- You can then pack files using the terminal.
- Use the cd command to navigate to the folder in which the file you want to package is located, for example: "cd / home / username / desk". Instead of "username" enter your username.
- With the command "zip -r zipfile.zip folder name" you pack the file. Enter the name of the file as "folder name". "zipfile.zip" will be the name of the newly created ZIP file.
- Alternatively, right-click on the file you want to package in Nautilus. Then select "Compress" and "zip" in the drop-down menu. Confirm the process with "Create".
