UFS 3.0: Advantages of the new storage standard for smartphones
There is flash memory in every smartphone or tablet. You can find out what the new UFS 3.0 standard can do in this practical tip.
UFS 3.0: Advantages of the new storage standard for smartphones
As a rule, the manufacturers of smartphones rely on UFS 2.0 or 2.1. However, the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association has now announced a new version of Universal Flash Storage (UFS). This brings significantly more power with lower power consumption.
- The new standard doubles the speed. Instead of 5.8 Gbps, the new standard enables 11.6 Gbps. Since it is two lanes, it has a maximum gross data rate of 23.2 Gbit / s. In the end, however, the net result will be significantly less, probably just under 2.5 gigabytes per second. The longevity of the memory should also be increased by a new refresh function.
- While the predecessors used a supply voltage of 2.7 to 3.6 volts, UFS 3.0 relies on 2.5 volts. In addition, new storage tanks can withstand temperatures from -40 to 105 ° C.
- Devices that appear at the end of the year will probably already have the new memory.
