Uhr: How to change your battery - simply explained
If your watch suddenly stops, the battery must be replaced. You can do that yourself. We will explain step by step how to do this.
Step 1: Open the clock before changing the battery
Depending on the design, there are two different methods of opening a clock. Turn the clock on the glass and put a towel under it so that nothing gets scratched.
- If the back of the watch is completely smooth, it is a pressure floor. You can simply pry it up with a thin kitchen knife. Be careful not to scratch the case or cut your fingers.
- If it is a screw base, you need a case opener. In the case of a screw base, there are at least two, and in some cases also several, notches in the cover. These notches vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, so the case opener is supplied with different attachments.
- Find the right attachments and put them on the opener. So that the attachments also fit into all the notches, you have to move the position of the attachments via the wheel on the opener until everything fits. You can then turn the opener so that the lid of the watch also turns.
- As a rule, clocks have a right-hand thread. To open the clock, you have to turn to the left. Some strength is required for this, but you should not work with force.
Step 2: change the battery from the watch
- If you have opened the watch, you can see the battery directly. You can remove the watch from the holder with your fingernail. If you start at the right point, the battery will simply pop out.
- Alternatively, you can use a toothpick or plastic items. Knives or other objects made of metal are not recommended, as short-circuits can occur in rare cases.
- The exact name of the battery type can be found on the battery. The best place to go for batteries is Ebay. Here you can order the batteries individually or in small quantities at reasonable prices and get them delivered by post within one or two days.
- If you have inserted the battery, you should first check whether the clock is running again. If so, you can replace the cover.
- With a pressure floor, you can simply press the cover back on. If there is a screw base, carefully screw the cover back on. Make sure that the thread does not jam. Use the case opener to tighten the cover sufficiently in the last step.
