Switching from Android to Windows Phone: the best tips
With this practical tip, we make it easier for you to switch from Android to Windows Phone. Among other things, we give you tips on how to get contacts and calendar entries on your new smartphone.
Contacts: This is how all contacts land on the Windows Phone
There are several options for how to move your contacts from Android smartphones to a Windows Phone.
- If your contacts are saved on the SIM card, you can insert the SIM card into the new smartphone and import it there. To do this, open the Contacts app on the Windows Phone and select the three small dots at the bottom right. In the "Settings" then select "Import from SIM".
- It is more difficult if, for example, you use a normal SIM card in the Android smartphone, but you need a micro SIM in the new cell phone. But there is a solution for this: We will show you how to transfer the SIM contacts to your Google account in this case.
- Now that your contacts are in your Google account, you can set it up on Windows Phone. To do this, open the settings and select "Email accounts + others". Here tap on "Add account" and select "Google" from the list. Enter your Gmail address and password. It takes a moment for everything to be synchronized. Then tap the account, then tap "Content to sync." Here, if not already activated by default, you have to tick the contacts and calendar so that your contacts are synchronized with the Windows Phone.
Take calendar entries with you on Windows Phone
Like the contacts, you can transfer the calendar to your Windows Phone using your Google account. In the first paragraph, we already told you how to set up the Google account on Windows Phone and import the entries. But there is also another option:
- Perhaps you have saved your calendar entries in Outlook or want to manage the entries through Outlook in the future. We'll show you how to synchronize your Android smartphone with Outlook.
- Since your calendar entries are now in Outlook, you can carry out the synchronization "the other way round". To do this, first set up your Outlook address on the Windows Phone. To do this, go back to Settings and open "Email accounts + others"> "Add account"> "Other account". Enter the Outlook address and password here. After the account has been synchronized, tap on it and activate the checkbox under "Content to be synchronized" under "Contacts" and "Calendar".
Transfer pictures and videos from the Android smartphone to the Windows Phone
You can transfer pictures and videos quickly if you use a memory card in your Android smartphone and the photos and videos are stored there. Then you can insert the memory card in most Windows Phones. So take all photos and videos with you.
- Alternatively, you can install the "OneDrive" app on your Android smartphone and upload the pictures and videos there. "OneDrive" is already integrated in Windows Phone, so that you have access to the content and can save it directly on the phone.
- You can also save your media files on the PC. Read how to transfer photos from Android to PC on the next page. Now all you have to do is connect your Windows Phone to the PC. The smartphone is automatically recognized as a data carrier. So you can easily transfer the images to the Windows Phone using drag & drop.
