Moving: Take your phone number with you - how it works
This practical tip explains how you can take your phone number with you when you move. We take a close look at the large providers Telekom, Vodafone and Kabel Deutschland.
Take the number with you when you move
- In the event of a move, you can take your phone number and tariff with you from almost all major providers. To do this, you must request the move in good time, ideally at least six weeks before the move begins. Also check whether the provider is available at the new location.
- A separate online form is available on the Telekom website for this purpose. You need your customer data, your old and new address as well as information about the connection to your new location. Telekom charges a fee of around 70 euros for the move.
- At Vodafone you can also order the move online. To do this, click on Relocation in the "My customer data" tab. Depending on whether you extend your contract term or not, there is a fee of around 60 euros for the move.
- At Kabel Deutschland you enter your data in a web form and the company will then contact you.
- If you have a contract with o2, you can also take it with you when you move. We explain how this works in this practical tip.
- If you have a telephone connection with another provider, you will usually find a form template for the move in the service area. If this is not the case, contact the customer center of the respective provider directly.
