Inequality condition in Excel
The logic operations in Microsoft Excel offer you a lot of functions, such as the unequal condition. Knowing how to use the functions correctly will make your daily work with the spreadsheet much easier.

To display the inequality sign in Excel, use the larger and smaller keys. The inequality sign is represented in the spreadsheet as follows:
- As with other mathematical operations in Excel, enter the formula for the unequal condition either in a cell or in the input bar.
- Note: In our example, do not enter the formula in the cell that you want to check using the unequal condition.
- In our small example, the number in cell C7 is checked. If you want the result of the check to appear next to cell C7, place the cursor in cell D7. (see Fig. 1)
- For example, if you want to exclude a certain number in cell C7, build a true-false statement.
- The corresponding unequal condition in this example is: = AND (C722; C733; C744). (see Fig. 2)

Using the data check, you can easily set up an unequal condition in Excel:
- Place the cursor in a cell and select the "Data" tab.
- In the quick start bar, click on the "Data verification" icon and then on "Settings".
- Under "Validity criteria", select the desired data type under "Allow". In this example a "whole number" and under "Data" select "not equal" (see screenshot).
- Then enter the "value" for which the condition is to apply.
- Tip: Under the other two tabs "Input message" and "Error message" you will find numerous other functions with which you can make your table more professional.
- For example, you can create warnings and instructions so that the user knows how to proceed.
