Unity Media or Kabel Deutschland - Internet providers in comparison
The selection of cable providers is limited. In this practical tip, we show you whether you should choose Kabel Deutschland or prefer Unity Media.
Kabel Deutschland: Cheap and fast internet, but not everywhere
Kabel Deutschland belongs to the Vodafone Group and offers Internet, telephone and television via cable connection:
- At Kabel Deutschland there are four tariffs to choose from, which differ in price and transmission speed. All contracts have a term of 24 months.
- The cheapest tariff offers 10 Mbit / s in the download. This is slower than ordinary DSL (16 Mbit / s), but costs only 9.99 euros in the first six months, then 19.99 euros. Compare the transfer rate here with your current internet speed. A landline flat rate is not included in the price, but can be booked for 5 euros per month.
- For 19.99 euros in the first two years and then 29.99 euros, you get 25 Mbit / s and a landline flat rate. Since the contract only runs for two years, you can cancel before the price goes up and look for a better deal.
- If you want to surf faster, choose the contract with 50 Mbit / s and landline flat for 19.99 euros in the first year, in the second year the fast connection costs 34.99 euros.
- Super-fast internet with 6 times the DSL speed is available for 19.99 euros in the first year. Then you pay 39.99 euros for the luxury.
- Kabel Deutschland offers cheap, fast tariffs. However, they must be connected to the cable network. You can find out whether cables are available at your address here.
- You should note that the download speeds are convincing, but the upload speeds leave something to be desired: You can choose between 0.6 Mbit / s for the cheapest contract and 6 Mbit / s for the fastest.
Unity Media: Cable network operator based in Cologne
Unity Media also offers Internet via a cable connection.
- With Unity Media you can choose between three tariffs with different speeds. All contracts have a term of 24 months. A telephone flat rate is not included.
- "Internet 10" costs 18 euros per month and offers you 10 Mbit / s in the down and 1 Mbit / s in the upload.
- "Internet 50" offers 50 Mbit / s download rate and 2.5 Mbit / s upload and costs 23 euros per month.
- Finally, there is also super-fast Internet at Unity Media: "Internet 100" costs 30 euros per month, at speeds of 100 Mbit / s in the down and 5 Mbit / s in the upload.
- In addition to the pure Internet tariffs, Unity Media also offers so-called 2play tariffs. These include landline flat rate and internet:
- 2play smart costs 20 euros per month and offers 10 Mbit / s for download, 1 Mbit / s for upload.
- With 2play Plus you surf in the first year for 25 euros per month at 120 Mbit / s. Upload speed is 6 Mbit / s. In the second year, the tariff costs 35 euros.
- It's even faster with 2play Premium: 200 Mbit / s in the download are included with this tariff, 10 Mbit / s in the upload.
- You can find out here whether Unity Media is available at your address.
Unity Media vs. Kabel Deutschland: special offers
- If you want to switch to Kabel Deutschland but are still tied to another provider, Kabel Deutschland will give you the first six months for free. (see image)
- Unity Media offers you a considerable online advantage: If you conclude your online income online, you will receive a discount of 80 euros.
- Do you want the 100 Mbit / s but not for the price? At Kabel Deutschland you can test the large contract for EUR 19.99 for 12 months and then switch to a cheaper offer.
- Kabel Deutschland also offers an online advantage: you get a credit of 20 or 30 euros (for the two expensive contracts).
Unity Media vs. Kabel Deutschland: conclusion
- Both providers offer fast internet tariffs with cable connection. In terms of price, the tariffs do not change much if you book a telephone connection. If you are looking for a pure internet tariff, Unity Media is cheaper.
- However, Kabel Deutschland convinces with the attractive exchange offer and the fixed network flat rate, which is included in the three large Internet contracts.
