Unitymedia increases prices: can I cancel? You have these rights
Every year, Unitymedia increases the prices for cable products for existing customers. Whether you can cancel due to the price increase depends on how much Unitymedia raises the price. We explain what your rights are.
Price increase at Unitymedia: special cancellation only in exceptional cases
Unitymedia has been increasing prices for existing customers regularly for several years now. A letter is usually sent to customers in January informing the group about the price increase.
- According to Unitymedia, the reason for the price increase is an increase in the total costs, which consist of copyright fees and other license costs, technology costs, wages and material costs, costs for the programs fed in, costs for customer management systems and other material and overhead costs.
- In its terms and conditions, Unitymedia states that prices can be increased once a year if the total costs increase. The Group is also committed to passing on any reductions in total costs to customers.
- As a customer, you accepted the general terms and conditions when concluding the contract and must take a price increase of up to 5%. If you want to avoid further price increases, you should terminate Unitymedia as soon as possible. Our termination template is available for this.
- An exception is when the price increase is more than five percent. In this case, you have the right to terminate your contract within six weeks of receiving the notification at the time of the price increase. You can also use our termination template for this. Enter the price increase as the reason for the cancellation.
