Unitymedia hotspot: set up and use
In many large cities, Unitymedia offers a free hotspot. To do this, you have to register first. We will guide you through the entire process in this guide so that you can surf quickly.
Free WiFi: use the Unitymedia hotspot
With the free hotspot, 100 MB of surfing volume with up to 150 MBit / s is available every day. Then continue surfing at a snail's pace at 64 kbps. However, there is no limit for Unitymedia customers. We have created special instructions for this below. How to surf as a non-Unitymedia customer:
- Open the "Settings" on your smartphone and switch to "WLAN".
- Then look for the "Unitymedia Public WifiSpot" and tap on "Connect" (see picture).
- Now your smartphone logs in to the WLAN network and the note "Connected" appears in the overview of all WLAN networks under the Unitymedia network.
Register in the Unitymedia hotspot
Before you can surf, you have to register. It works with your phone number:
- As soon as you are connected to the network, the message "Log on to the network" appears. If this message does not pop up after a few seconds, simply open any website.
- Now the start screen of the Unitymedia hotspot opens. Here, tap on "Request access code".
- You now need to identify yourself with your cell phone number. You will receive an access code by SMS with which you can log in for two years. Please note: The code is only valid for one device.
- Unitymedia offers two networks: You can choose whether you want to surf with WPA or WPA2.
- Now you can start surfing.
Unitymedia customers: How to surf without limits
- Go to the Unitymedia website and click on "Customer Center."
- Log in here and then select "My Products"> "Internet".
- Next you need to "share your router as a home spot". This means you set up a hotspot for other Unitymedia customers who are close to your WLAN. This is a prerequisite for being able to use the premium features of the Unitymedia hotspots, such as particularly fast internet.
- Now set a password in the settings for WifiSpot. The user name corresponds to your email address (see picture).
- After saving, you can log in to all public Unitymedia hotspots with your user data.
