Unitymedia: Change IP address - how it works
Unitymedia changes your dynamic IP and can also change your static IP. Depending on whether you want to change the IP address of your Internet access or your website, you have to do it differently. In both cases, Unitymedia can assign you a new IP.
Change IP address at Unitymedia
Unitymedia offers the typical internet access as well as websites and servers. With the former you can easily make Unitymedia change your IP, with the latter you have to contact customer service.
- If you have an Internet connection at Unitymedia, it usually has a dynamic IP address. In this case, you can simply switch off your modem for a few seconds so that Unitymedia assigns you a new IP address.
- In a separate practical tip, we will show you other ways to change your IP - regardless of the DSL provider. We also explain exactly how to change your IP address on Mac and Ubuntu.
- If you have a static IP address at Unitymedia, for example for your website, a server or a cloud, this assigned IP cannot be changed using the method described above.
- With static IPs, your domain is assigned to a static, i.e. fixed, IP address. Name servers refer to this IP address after entering your address in the browser.
- To change this static IP, a significantly greater effort is required. To do this, contact the Unitymedia customer center. Alternatively, you can move with your registered website. With a new provider, this will continue to run under a new IP.
In further practical tips, we will show you how to determine your own and third-party IP addresses.
