unsecapp.exe - what is it?
In this practical tip, we explain what the "unsecapp.exe" process is and what the tool is required for under Windows.
unsecapp.exe: a process from Windows Management Instrumation
The unsecapp.exe process is a component of Windows Management Instrumation (WMI). This is an important Windows service. You should therefore not exit unsecapp.exe, otherwise your computer may crash. With the WMI you can do different tasks:
- start a process on a remote computer.
- Schedule tasks on your computer that you want to run at a specific time.
- View and clear the Windows event logs.
- edit the Windows registry.
unsecapp.exe as malware
Since unsecapp.exe is a central component of Windows, the process is sometimes misused by malware:
- Unsecapp.exe is normally located in the directory "C: \ Windows \ System32 \ webem". If you find the file somewhere else, it could be malware.
- Even if the process consumes excessive resources and has no Windows signature, it is likely to be malware.
- If in doubt, check your system with an antivirus program.
