Upgrade the PS3 games to PS4 version - how it works
Are you the proud owner of a PS4 but want to upgrade your PS3 games? Unfortunately not possible - so far! When buying some PS3 titles offer a reduced price upgrade to the PS4 version - we'll show you how.
PS3 games with discounted PS4 upgrade option
When purchasing a new PS3 game, some manufacturers offer to download the PS4 version from PlayStation Store at a reduced price. This works for the following titles:
- "Call of Duty: Ghosts"
- "Battlefield 4"
- "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag"
- "Injustice: Gods Among Us - Ultimate Edition"
- "NBA 2K14"
Buy the PS4 game cheaper with the bonus code
You redeem the supplied code in the PlayStation Store and insert the game's PS3 disc into the drive. This activates the code and starts the game on the PS4. You can also redeem the code on the PS3 and only activate it later when you receive the PS4.
- Important: The PS3 disc is required to start the digital PS4 version. The only exception: you already have a digital PS3 version with the upgrade voucher, then you can simply ignore this step. However, the CD should only be inserted into the PS4 after you have bought the discounted Playstation 4 version. Otherwise there may be problems and errors in the game.
A major disadvantage of the Playstation 4 is the lack of backward compatibility. PS1, PS2 and PS3 games cannot be played on the PS4. Sony has promised to work on an upgrade solution, but it could take longer (as of February 2014). "Playstation Now" is also said to be a streaming service with PS3 games, but an appointment has also not yet been made. Current estimate for Europe: 2015.
