If the download of a game via the Uplay client ends with the message "Uplay cannot start your download", there are various possible causes. We'll show you how to fix it.
Uplay download does not start - check internet connection
Make sure you are connected to the Internet and that your firewall is not blocking the Uplay client.
- To do this, switch off the firewall and other security programs (antivirus tools) and check whether the download works now.
- If this is the case, you should create an exception rule in your firewall for Uplay. The following TCP ports must be enabled in this: 80, 443, 13000, 13005, 13200, 14000, 14008.
Free space for game download
Insufficient space on your installation drive can also be responsible for the error message. Make sure that there is enough space available on the hard drive you are using.
- Delete unnecessary programs and files from the hard drive until there is enough space to install the game.
- Alternatively, you can change the installation path: Open the settings in the Uplay client and switch to the "Downloads" area. Now enter directories with sufficient free space under "Current installation cache location" and "Standard game installation location".
Start the Uplay client as administrator
The error can also occur if you run the Uplay client with insufficient user rights. So start it with administrative rights:
- Open the Uplay installation directory in Windows Explorer. By default, this is "C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Ubisoft \ Ubisoft Game Launcher". Now right-click on the Uplay.exe file and select "Run as administrator" in the context menu. Confirm the security question with "Yes".
Uplay can't start your download - more fixes
- Activate the bandwidth limit in the settings of Uplay. You can find this in the "Downloads" area. First set this to the minimum of 128 KB / s. If the download works, you can set a higher value again.
- Quit all unnecessary background programs via the Windows Task Manager, as these could interfere with Uplay.
- In principle, the error can also occur if the Uplay servers are temporarily unavailable. In this case, there is nothing else you can do but wait for the problem to be resolved.
- If the problem persists after a long time, you should reinstall Uplay.
