Urban gardening is the latest trend for city dwellers with little space but a lot of fun in the garden. We have put together creative ideas on how to make your life green.
Urban gardening - in the vertical
If your space is limited and you still want to have more greenery in your home, then Vertical Gardens are the right choice for you.
- Vertical gardens means that plants are attached to a wall along the height. So you take up little space and still offer support for herbs, green plants and even some types of vegetables.
- With a wooden Euro pallet you can easily design a vertical garden.
- First cover a plywood panel cut to the dimensions of your Euro pallet with a waterproof film.
- Then also equip the inside of your pallet with waterproof film so that there are no floods later when pouring.
- Now attach a wall bracket to the back of the wooden plate. When choosing the suitable installation for you and your wall, be sure to include the weight of the wooden panel. You can either choose a dowel attachment or hang the pallet with a steel chain - or you can simply lean the pallet against the wall. The latter is particularly suitable for balconies.
- Use screws to connect the wooden plate to the euro pallet. Then seal the joints between the pallet and the wood from the inside with silicone.
- Finally, you can now plant your palette. Make sure that you choose compatible plants that need a similar amount of water. You can either pour the soil directly into the pallet, or you can place the plants in light plant pots on the pallet.
In the green shower
For a less complex idea, but which can dramatically improve your shower experience, you can also attach green plants here.
- With just a few plants in your shower, your morning cleansing session can quickly turn into a tropical spa experience.
- With cheap pots that are equipped with suction cups, you can attach the plants directly to your shower wall.
- In addition, many plants thrive particularly well in the humid climate.
- Easy-care ferns in particular, but also orchids are suitable for moisture in the shower.
DIY hanging plants for the Urban Garden
This idea not only brings plants into your life, but also gives new life to used plastic bottles. With plastic bottles and some yarn, you can easily make hanging plants. Urban gardening does not always have to be complex: this DIY idea is simple, quick and pretty.
- Cut a plastic bottle in half. You only need the lower part with the bottle bottom. If necessary, you can now paint the bottle in a color of your choice.
- Fill in a layer of pebble at the bottom, then soil and the plant. Cacti and succulents in particular are suitable for this idea due to their low weight and low water consumption.
- Now take the yarn and cut it into three equally long pieces of at least one meter in length.
- Knot the ends together and now braid the lengths. Repeat this step four times so that you have four long, braided strands in front of you at the end.
- Knot these strands here, both at the beginning and at the end, and now place the plastic bottle pot in the lower end on the knot.
- You can now hang the upper end of the knotted strands on a hook on the ceiling.
