Causes of fine dust: This is how pollution occurs
When it comes to particulate matter, we instinctively think of the city and lots of cars, but there are numerous other causes of pollution. You can find out what they are here.
Particulate matter - it's not just the cars that cause pollution
The fine dust caused by the numerous cars in the city centers is undoubtedly a major burden on our health. But the vehicles are by no means solely responsible for the harmful environmental pollution.
- When it comes to particulate matter from cars, it is not just the soot particles that pollute the environment. The abrasion of tires or brakes, for example, also makes up a large proportion of the fine dust that is caused by the vehicles.
- There are also numerous other very fine dirt particles that are deposited on the streets. This fine dust is repeatedly thrown through the air by the movements of the vehicles.
- A lot of fine dust is released in particular by combustion processes. This includes industrial plants as well as the open fireplace and the heating in apartments. But romantic dust candles, cigarettes or a vacuum cleaner also throw tiny dust particles into the air. And last but not least, we ourselves permanently lose tiny skin particles that ultimately swirl through the area as fine dust.
- Scientists have also found that fine chemical substances also develop in the atmosphere through complex chemical processes. The soot from volcanic eruptions, desert dust or falling meteorites can also be involved.
- If you live in the country, you will certainly live a healthier life, but agriculture also causes fine dust. In addition, the fine dust can be transported up to 500 kilometers away due to environmental factors such as strong winds.
