In this practical tip we explain the differences between USB 3.1 and 3.0.
USB 3.1 is faster than USB 3.0
- USB 3.0 and 3.1 differ mainly in the data rate.
- With Update 3.1, the user has a data rate that is roughly twice as high as with USB 3.0.
- With at least theoretical 10 Gbit / s, USB 3.1 also competes with the Thunderbolt interface.
- However, unlike USB 3.0, the USB 3.1 connector is no longer fully backward compatible. More precisely: the connector type C is not backwards compatible. If your USB device has connector type A or B, it is still downward compatible.
In the next practical tip, we will show you the differences between USB 2.0 and 3.0.
