Install USB Loader GX on the Wii
If you install the USB Loader GX on your Softmod-Wii, you can play back-up copies from a connected USB hard drive. In the practical tip below, we will explain step by step how to proceed and which conditions must be met.
USB Loader GX on the Wii - the requirements
To be able to install the UBS Loader GX on your Nintendo Wii, you should already have installed the homebrew channel and the d2x-cios on your Wii.
- The intervention in the Nintendo Wii system is enormous and you should only accept this modification if you are really confident about the installation.
- You also need a common SD card and a USB storage device with at least four GB, on which you can save your backup copies after installation.
Preparation: Download the USB Loader GX and copy it to the SD card
The USB Loader GX is started from the SD card. You have to download the current version and save it in the correct directory structure on the SD card:
- First download the current version of the USB Loader GX in the all-in-one package for IOS 222.
- Unzip the archive and copy the "apps" and "wad" folders into the main directory of your SD card. Please note that the "apps" folder is actually stored in the main directory of the SD card, otherwise the homebrew channel will not recognize the application.
Start the USB Loader GX
Basically, the USB Loader GX is already "installed" because the homebrew channel does nothing other than load it from the SD card.
- Insert the SD card into your Nintendo Wii and start the homebrew channel.
- Insert your USB storage device into the outer USB slot on the back of the Nintendo Wii.
- The USB Loader GX is started with a simple click. If your USB storage device is recognized correctly, you can now use the plus button on the Wii remote control to copy games in the Nintendo Wii drive to the USB device and start them from there.
Optional: Install the USB Loader GX-Channel
If you find it annoying that you have to start the homebrew channel each time in order to be able to use the USB Loader GX, we recommend installing the USB Loader GX-Channel. It is installed directly in the main menu of the Nintendo Wii and can be easily deleted via the system settings.
- The channel is already on your SD card if you have copied the folder "wad".
- Download the WAD Manager application and then unzip the archive.
- In the WADManagerGUI folder, select the WM_IOS249 folder and copy it to the apps folder on your SD card and thus into the same directory as the USB Loader GX.
- Insert SD card in your Wii and start the homebrew channel. You should now see the WADManagerGUI application. Start it up.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and navigate to the wad folder. Here you select the file USBLoader_GX_V3_0_UNLR_Channel_AHBPROT.wad and install it.
- If the installation is successful, you can now start the USB Loader GX from the main menu of your Nintendo Wii.
