USB Serial Converter: Install drivers - how it works
If you want to establish a connection between the USB and RS232 connection, you must first install the driver for the USB Serial Converter. In this practical tip we will show you how.
Instructions: Install driver for USB Serial Converter
- At best, you have the driver on CD or as an EXE file on your computer. In this case, simply start the CD or the respective file.
- Do not connect the USB Serial Converter to the computer yet and follow the installation instructions.
- Once the installation has been completed, you can connect and use the USB Serial Converter to the PC.
USB Serial Converter: Install driver manually
If there is no driver, it is half as bad. In many cases, Windows can find the driver on its own. To do this, proceed as follows:
- Connect the USB serial adapter to the PC and open the device manager.
- Select the "unknown device" with the right mouse button.
- With the "Update driver software" option, Windows can "automatically search for the latest driver software".
- If Windows finds something, the driver is downloaded and then installed.
- If that doesn't work, right-click the device again and select the "Properties".
- Go to the "Details" tab above and select the "Hardware IDs" option.
- With one of the hardware IDs, you can now search for drivers for the USB Serial Converter via Google.
