Copy USB stick automatically - so it'll work
If you often exchange files between PCs, you can also automatically copy a USB stick. This will directly back up all files on the disk. In this practical tip, we explain how to set up the automatic copying process.
Copy data from USB stick automatically - how it works
Automatic data transmission is not possible with the Windows on-board equipment. The easiest way to do this is with an additional program such as the free "USBFlashCopy".
- Download and install the USBFlashCopy program. If you have chosen the portable version, you only have to start the file usbflashcopy.exe. The program runs in the Windows notification area at the bottom right. It is best to set the options so that it starts automatically with Windows.
- If you connect a USB stick to your PC for the first time, it will be recognized automatically. You can then choose whether you want to copy the data based on a standard profile (Use default profile) or create a special profile for the data carrier (New profile ...).
- If you decide on a new profile, in the next step you define the target directory for the data to be copied on your hard disk. You can also limit the copy speed and define file filters. For example, you can only copy certain types of files such as images. You also determine whether modified files should be overwritten or whether a copy of the old files should be retained.
- If you connect your USB stick to the PC in the future, the files will be copied automatically taking into account the selected profile.
