Name the USB stick - how it works
SD cards and USB sticks are recognized automatically, but are only displayed as "removable media". Renaming is easy and makes it easier to find the right drive letter.
Give USB sticks and SD cards a name
Since each USB device has a unique identifier, the system remembers it and can recognize the device again later. To make it easier for the user, assign meaningful names such as "Urlaub2014" for an SD card with holiday pictures.
- To do this, connect the data carrier to the computer and search for the assigned drive in Explorer.
- Then right-click on the drive icon and select the context command "Properties".
- In the "General" tab, enter the desired name at the top, which can be a maximum of eleven characters long.
- Confirm your entry with "Apply" and "OK". By later assigning an empty name, you delete the previously created individual name.
- A name change also works directly with a right click and the command "Rename". However, you cannot completely delete the name in this way.
