USB stick not assigned - what to do?
If the message "Not assigned" appears on the USB stick, you cannot use it for the time being. In this practical tip, we will show you how you can assign the stick to the storage space.
USB stick not assigned - this will solve the problem
- First open the Control Panel on your system and select "Administrative Tools".
- There you will find the entry "Disk management". Double click on it.
- In this view you can see all data carriers that are connected to the PC, including the USB stick.
- Now right-click on the stick where "Not assigned" and select "New simple volume" (see screenshot).
- After you have clicked "Next" three times, you must now check the box "Format this volume with the following settings". Select "FAT32" as the file system.
- You should leave the "Size of the allocation unit" at "Standard". Give the stick a name and tick the "Perform quick formatting" checkbox. The process is started with "Next". Warning: If there is data on the stick, it will be lost during formatting.
- After the stick has been formatted and assigned, a new window opens where you can now load data onto the stick.
