USB stick is not recognized: You can do that

If the USB stick is not recognized, this does not immediately mean that the USB stick is defective. The USB port may not work properly or the USB stick may not be displayed. This practical tip shows you what you can do to ensure that your USB stick is recognized.
USB stick is not recognized: Check the USB port
It may not be the USB stick itself that is defective, but the USB port you are using.
- Check this by inserting the USB stick into another port on your PC or laptop. It is unlikely that multiple ports on your PC or laptop are broken.
- Another way to check the ports is to connect another USB device. Plug in any USB device and see if it works. If so, the USB port is not defective. So you also know that the USB port driver is working properly.
USB stick is still not recognized: Check the drive
If your USB ports are OK, but the USB stick is still not recognized, you can test whether the drive letter of the USB stick is being used by other hardware. Proceed as follows:
- Right-click on "Computer" and select "Manage" from the menu.
- The "Computer Management" opens. Select the "Disk management" item in the menu on the left. If the USB stick is listed here, it will also be recognized, but simply not displayed in the desktop area.
- In order to access your data, you must now change the drive letter, as the drive letter of the USB stick is probably already in use. Click with the right mouse button on the drive letter of the USB stick and select the sub-item "Change drive letter and paths".
- In the window that opens, click "Change", whereupon you can assign a new drive letter in the new window on the right (see screenshot).
- Confirm your selection with "OK" and the USB stick should be visible again.
