uTorrent: Set up a proxy - how it works
In order to download data securely and anonymously via uTorrent, a proxy can be set up in the BitTorrent client. In this practical tip, we'll tell you how.
Find proxies for uTorrent
Before you start using a proxy in uTorrent, you first have to find a proxy server.
- A good contact point for free proxy servers is, for example, the website "proxylist.hidemyass.com". Here you will find proxy servers from different countries, specifying the speed and connection time.
- Also on "best-proxy.com" there are various proxy servers that you can sort by location and proxy type.
- Another good website for proxies is "www.xroxy.com". Here you will find continuously updated servers all over the world.
Set proxy in uTorrent and increase anonymity
Once you have found a suitable proxy, you can start inserting it into uTorrent.
- Start uTorrent on your computer.
- Switch to the "Options" tab in the top left and go from here to "Settings".
- A new window is opening up. In the left bar there is the point "Connection".
- Under "Proxy Server" you first have to set the "Type". Select the type that is also specified on the proxy website (usually HTTP).
- Then enter the IP address of the server under "Proxy" and the corresponding data under "Port".
- With some servers you still need login data, which you can enter via "Access data". You usually do not need any login data for public servers.
- With a click on "OK" you accept the new settings and download the data via a proxy server.
This tip also applies to uTorrent 3.4.9. In the next article, you will learn how you can pretend the wrong Internet address in other programs and travel anonymously on the Web.
