Vegan electricity: this is how it is produced

Vegan electricity is based on a trend of our time to live more consciously and healthier. You can find out how this is made in this article.
Power sources that are considered non-vegan
Why are some power generation methods considered vegan and others not - we'll tell you.
- In addition to the risks of radioactive material, electricity from nuclear power is problematic for vegans, especially because of the waste heat. This heats the river water, which can lead to a large fish death. Nuclear power is therefore not considered vegan.
- Electricity from coal power is also not vegan electricity. On the one hand, large areas of nature and thus the habitat of many animals are destroyed to extract coal. On the other hand, this lowers the groundwater level, which is why the released substances increase the sulfate load in rivers.
- Electricity from wind power is also avoided by vegans. Wind farms in the sea destroy the ecosystem there, birds can collide with the rapidly rotating rotors. It can also flake off ice and injure or kill animals on the ground.
- Electricity generated from hydropower is also not vegan. The necessary dams dry out entire regions and fish can die from the turbines or no longer come to their spawning grounds.
- Natural gas is not vegan because pipelines destroy fish habitats and gas leaks can kill many animals.
Vegan power sources
If you want to get your electricity from vegan sources, you have 2 options.
- Electricity from solar energy is vegan because it is an environmentally friendly and climate-neutral method and solar cells do not harm animals in any way.
- Biogas is also vegan, but not from specially planted plants or animal waste from factory farming, but from sugar beet pulp. These arise as waste in sugar production and can be used to produce biogas.
In the next article we will clarify whether glycerin is vegan or not.
