Cannot connect to the iTunes Store - what to do?
If you cannot connect to the iTunes Store on a PC or iOS device, this can indicate various problems. There are three known error messages when the iTunes Store cannot connect. We'll show you what you can do when iTunes is down.

The following three error messages are common:
- "Unable to connect to the iTunes Store. An unknown error occurred."
- "Your request to the iTunes Store could not be completed. The iTunes Store is currently unavailable. Please try again later."
- "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. Make sure your network connection is up and try again."
Unable to connect to the iTunes Store: the solutions
All three error messages can be eliminated with the same steps. We provide you with the following solutions.
- First check whether you have a working internet connection on your PC, iPhone, iPad or iPod. Without an internet connection, no connection to the iTunes Store is established.
- Make sure that you have loaded and installed the latest iOS version or the current version of your operating system on the PC. On the PC or Mac, you can also check whether the latest version of iTunes is installed.
- A restart from the iPhone, iPad, iPod or PC often helps. After restarting, the iTunes Store may work normally.
- For iPhone or iPad with 3G, you can disconnect the WiFi connection and try whether you can connect to the iTunes Store via 3G connection.
- If you get an error message stating that the iTunes store is currently unavailable, you often just have to be patient. Sometimes the error comes when maintenance work is in progress.
