If you activate the "Power User Mode" in the Opera browser, some hidden settings will be revealed. In this practical tip, we will show you how to activate the settings.
Activate hidden settings in Opera - how it works
To access the hidden settings in Opera, proceed as follows:
- Enter "chrome: // settings" in the address line of the Opera browser to access the settings.
- You cannot access the "Power User Mode" using the search function. Here you have to enter the following key combination of arrow keys and letters in the correct order: "Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right" and then press "b" and "a" on the keyboard.
- A welcome window appears with the warning that the hidden settings can severely affect the browser. You must confirm this warning by clicking on "I have understood this and would like to continue".
- Then you get to the new, grayed out settings.
Hidden settings in Opera: You can do that with it
- Instead of shortening the display, you can have Opera display the full URL of a website in the address bar. To do this, click on "Show complete URL in the combined search and address bar" in the "Browser" category.
- If you tick the box "Activate search field in the address bar", a separate search field will appear next to the address field, as you know it from Mozilla Firefox, for example.
- In the "Browser" area you will also find two settings that affect the speed. The "Use Hardware Acceleration" option, when available, uses graphics card power to load the website to speed up loading.
- The setting "Activate Opera Turbo", on the other hand, shortens the page layout with an intermediate proxy server including compression.
