Hidden objects found at AntiVir - what to do?
If you find so-called hidden objects during a system scan with AntiVir, you do not have to worry immediately. These are usually not harmful. However, in rare cases, viruses can also be involved. How to deal with the finding.
Check hidden objects in Avira AntiVir
- Hidden objects are files that are intended to protect users in Windows. These should not be missing. To prevent you from accidentally deleting them, you are made invisible. Unfortunately, viruses also take advantage of this fact.
- If AntiVir virus protection finds hidden objects in a system scan, these are usually not harmful. However, the fact that this is malware cannot be ruled out. You should therefore check the corresponding file again.
- After the system scan click on the "Report" button (see picture) and scroll down in the text file until you have found the path of the file to be checked.
- Open the virustotal website, click on the "Select one" button and navigate to the path of the hidden object. Open the file and click on the blue "Scan" button.
- Now the file is checked and assessed by 47 antivirus programs. If one of the programs shows a negative message, you can do further research.
- A tried and tested means for the following research is to google the name of the file in question and see if other users have already had problems with the object. If you are sure that it is malware, you can have your virus scanner isolate the file by moving it to quarantine and "decommissioning" it. Then it is best to contact someone who is familiar with such a problem.
