Enable Confidential Mode in Gmail: How to set Confidential Mode
The "Confidential Mode" function is one of the new exciting features in Gmail that Google wants to score. The Confidential Mode is due to better data protection and will grant you more privacy in the future.
Confidential Mode - new feature from Gmail
Confidential mode is a useful innovation for users of the Google email service. However, it should not be forgotten that the thing has a horse's foot.
- In the revised Gmail you will have the option to send your mails and attachments much better protected.
- In Confidential Mode, you specify how long the mail should be readable before it is automatically deleted. The period can range from one day to several years.
- If your message is highly explosive, also set up a second security level. The recipient receives a code via SMS which he must enter before he can access the mail.
- To come back to the already mentioned horse's foot: The emails are on a Google server and who ultimately has access to everything, you can neither influence nor will you ever find out. Therefore, the following still applies: The more explosive the news, the safer the good old four-eyes principle.
Confidential mode - so turn it on
You can try out the new Gmail without any obligation. However, it is possible that Google has not yet released all new functions for you. If you don't like the new interface, you can restore Gmail to the old design with one hand.
- To try out the new Gmail, go to "Settings" and click on the first menu item "Test the new Gmail".
- If Google has already activated the "Confidential Mode" feature for you, you will see the corresponding icon in the bottom bar of the email. The icon for Confidential Mode is on the far right and looks like a small lock with a clock.
- After you have clicked the confidential mode icon, you specify how long the mail should be readable and whether the recipient must also enter an SMS code.
- In the upper area of the mail there is a staple icon with which you can set the time frame for a possible attachment.
