Embed video in Outlook
Embedding videos in an email is not easy with Outlook. We'll show you what options there are depending on where the video came from.
Embed video file in the attachment
- If the video is a file on your hard drive and not a clip on the Internet, you can simply send the file as an attachment to your email.
- To do this, go to the "Attach file" icon when writing your email and select the video file from your hard drive.
- Please note that video files can sometimes be very large and are therefore unsuitable for sending e-mails. Many email providers limit mailbox storage space, which could make large files a problem.
Upload your own videos and send a link
- To keep the storage requirements of the email small, you can use cloud services such as Dropbox or Skydrive. Upload your video there and only send the corresponding link in the email. The recipient can then open the link and watch or download the video online.
- You can find more detailed information on this in this practical tip.
Embed link from YouTube and Co. in Outlook
- If the video is not a file on your hard drive but a clip in an online video portal such as YouTube, embedding is particularly easy.
- You can almost always use an integrated sharing function of the video platform. In the example from YouTube, simply go to "Share"> "E-Mail" and enter the recipient address there (see screenshot).
- Alternatively, you can of course copy the link of the video from the address line of your browser and paste it into the text of the email.
