Automatically rename and tag many MP3 files - how it works
Thanks to a free tool, you can automatically rename and tag many MP3 files. Only a few clicks are required for this, as this practical tip shows you.
So you can automatically rename and tag MP3 files
First download the freeware MusicBrainz Picard and install the tool.
- After successful installation, start the program on your PC.
- At the first step above, click "Add Files" to add the MP3 songs. You can also select entire folders via "Add folder".
- Once you have selected the songs or folders, they appear in the left column of the program.
- Click on "Group" to sort the songs according to the existing tags. If the program was unable to assign some of the songs, they are stored in the "Unassigned files" group.
- However, first dedicate yourself to the recognized files and check them by clicking on an album or a title and selecting "Lockup" above. Picard searches the database for this track.

- If all data is correct, right click on the entry and select "Save". The respective tracks are now highlighted in green.
- Now click on an entry that was not recognized. On the right side you will find all the information that Picard could find.
- The respective tags are applied to the selected file using drag & drop. This means that multiple music files can be tagged with the same tags.
- However, if Picard was unable to find any information, you can search for it manually using the search field at the top right.
