Remove viruses with AVG Anti-Virus: a guide
In this guide, we show you how to remove viruses with AVG Anti-Virus.
AVG Anti-Virus: Remove viruses - this is how you proceed
- AVG Anti-Virus is available in the free version for 32-bit and 64-bit systems for download from CHIP Online.
- After installation, you should start the update check using the corresponding button in the main menu to download the latest virus definitions.
- You can check your PC for viruses using the "Check now" button. Both the entire computer and a special folder can be selected for the scan. Depending on the number and size of the files, this process can take some time.
- In the scan results you can see an overview of all the finds. If you have activated the option "Repair / remove virus infections without prompting" in the settings, all contaminated files will be deleted automatically, if this is possible. This option is activated by default.
- If a suspicious file is detected that cannot be automatically removed or cleaned up, it is moved to the virus quarantine. You can find this via the "Options" item by clicking on "Virus quarantine".
- If you are sure that a file is trustworthy, you can remove it from the quarantine by clicking on "Restore" and leave it on your hard disk.
- You can remove the file (s) by clicking on "Delete".
- In order for AVG Anti-Virus 2014 to detect viruses during the regular use of your PC, you should tick the "Remove resident protection" option under "Computer protection".
Individual files can also be checked online for viruses. We will show you how this works in the next practical tip.
