Setting up and using Virtual DJ - a guide
Virtual DJ is one of the best free entry-level programs in the DJ field. In this guide, we show you how to download and install the program and how to make the most important settings.
Starting and setting up Virtual DJ - Instructions
- Download the program from our download portal.
- Follow the instructions in the installation wizard and then run Virtual DJ.
- Open Virtual DJ 8 and click on the options gear at the top right of the screen. Then make sure that your desired audio playback device is selected in the "Sound Settings" section. (VDJ 8 usually recognizes your standard audio device automatically)
Basic functions of Virtual DJ
The functions in Virtual DJ 8 are very extensive. Here is an overview of the most important features.
- To load a track onto a deck, navigate to any directory with the integrated browser. Virtual DJ automatically displays all the music files in the selected folder. Drag and drop a track of your choice onto a free deck. This is immediately analyzed and loaded.
- To create a playlist, drag any number of tracks into the empty playlist field. To play them, press CTRL + spacebar. This starts the automix mode, in which Virtual DJ automatically transitions and plays all the tracks in the playlist.
- You can also operate all controls and buttons that you see on the surface. To do this, click on a controller and drag the mouse up (+) or down (-).
Skins change in Virtual DJ
Skins are files that visually change the surface of Virtual DJ. If you want to change the look of Virtual DJ, do the following:
- You have to download the skins first. The official homepage of V-DJ provides them here for free.
- Save your skin under C: \ Users \ Own User \ Documents \ VirtualDJ \ Skins and unzip it if necessary.
- Open the menu of Virtual DJ, click on the heading "Skins" and select the desired file.
Create controllers in Virtual DJ
In the menu under the heading "Controllers" you can also create shortcuts within the program, so-called controllers. Simply assign a command to a key combination. This is especially recommended if you don't have an additional mixer.
Add hardware in Virtual DJ
If you have a DJ controller, you can get the most out of it with Virtual DJ. Make sure your PC recognizes your controller correctly and start Virtual DJ. Your controller is automatically recognized by the program and is ready for use. (Attention: To use a controller you need a special license for Virtual DJ - this costs the equivalent of around 90 euros)
