- In the VirtualBox Manager click on "New" in the top left.
- Now enter "Debian" as the name. The type and version are usually determined automatically. Then click Next".
- Select 1024 MB as RAM and click on "Next".
- Then select "Create hard disk" and click on "Create".
- You can then choose the file type of the hard disk. Here VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image) is recommended. Click "Next" again.
- Then you have to choose whether the memory of the virtual hard disk should be allocated dynamically or fixed. It is advisable to choose a dynamically allocated memory, since the virtual hard disk only occupies memory on the physical hard disk when data is being written. Click "Next" again.
- Finally choose the size of your virtual hard disk and click on "Create". The virtual hard disk should be at least 4 GB in size, otherwise there could be problems with the Linux system.

You can now start Debian.
- In the VirtualBox Manager select "Debian" and click on "Start" in the top left corner.
- In the next step, click the folder icon on the right and select the downloaded Debian ISO file to boot from it. Click "Start" again.
- Now the Debian installer starts. Just click through it. There is nothing important to consider during installation.
