Virtualbox: No bootable medium found - you can do that
If Virtualbox shows the message "No bootable medium found", the virtual machine cannot start. In this practical tip, we will show you how to solve the problem.
Virtualbox: No bootable medium found - you can do that
The message "No bootable medium found" is displayed in Virtualbox if the ISO file for the operating system was not found. This usually happens when the ISO file has been deleted or moved. In this case, proceed as follows:
- Exit the virtual machine, select it in the overview and click on the "Change" button above.
- If you switch to the "Mass Storage" category on the left, you will find one or more entries in the area of the same name. If the ISO file of the operating system is available in the list (see picture), click on it with the mouse.
- Click on the CD icon in the top right corner and select the "Select file for optical medium" option.
- Then you can select the ISO file from your computer and close the window with "OK".
- If only the controller can be seen in the "Mass storage" area, click on the diskette symbol with the plus sign at the bottom. Here you can "add an optical drive" and also open the ISO file.
In the next practical tip we will show you how to install an extension pack in Virtualbox.
