Virtualbox: Set up port forwarding - how it works
In the virtual box, the system is isolated from the outside. To access from outside, you can set up port forwarding as forwarding. In this practical tip, we will show you how it's done.
Variant 1: Virtualbox - set up a network bridge instead of port forwarding
For port forwarding you need some data from the server you want to connect to. If you want to make things a little easier for yourself, you can connect the virtual PC to your local network using a network bridge:
- Exit the virtual machine, select it in Virtualbox and click on the "Change" button above.
- Go to the "Network" category on the left and select "Network bridge" next to "Connected to".
- Now decide on one of the desired network adapters.
- If necessary, you can make further changes under "Advanced".
- The "OK" button gives the virtual machine access to the network adapter and thus full access to your local network.
Variant 2: Virtualbox - set up port forwarding
- Exit the virtual machine, select it in the overview and click on the "Change" button above.
- Go to the "Network" category on the left and click the "Port Forwarding" button under "Advanced".
- If you click on the plus symbol in the top right, you can create a new rule.
- For example, if you use an FTP server, the host port 505 and the guest port 21 are usually required.
- If you close all windows with "OK", port forwarding is set up.
- Note: Give each rule a different name. Entries with the same name will be automatically deleted later.
