With Virtualbox, you can also easily boot your operating system from the USB stick. We explain step by step how to do this in this guide.
Virtualbox: boot from the USB stick - so it'll work
- First open the disk management from "Control Panel"> "Administrative Tools". There, write down the number of the USB stick, for example "2" for data carrier 2.
- Now you have to press "Start" and enter "Command Prompt". Start this by right-clicking on the search result and selecting "Run as administrator".
- Change here with the command "cd Program \ oracle \ VirtualBox" into the directory of Virtualbox.
- Then enter the following command: "VBoxManage internalcommands createrawvmdk -filename"% USERPROFILE% "\. VirtualBox \ USB.vmdk-rawdisk \\. \ PhysicalDrive". Replace "disk number" with the actual number, in our example 2.
- Confirm with [Enter]. Now you have to create a new machine in the virtual box. To do this, click "New" in VirtualBox and follow the instructions.
- In the "Hard disk" item, select "Use existing hard disk" and enter the USB.vmdk file you just created.
- After you have saved the changes, you can boot directly from the USB stick.
