VirtualDub Guide: How to Convert and Cut Videos
If you want to cut and convert a video, the fairly simple software VirtualDub is ideal. In this guide, we show you the basic steps for editing and converting.
Instructions: Cut video with VirtualDub
- Start VirtualDub and drag the desired video file into the window with the mouse. The video format AVI is recommended for the import.
- Drag the slider at the bottom of the timeline to the desired point for the first cut. In order for the cut to be made in a problem-free place, you need to find a so-called key frame.
- To do this, click on the play button with the yellow key symbol (see picture) at the bottom left under the timeline. You can use this to navigate suitable intersection points.
- You can use the two buttons to the right of the key frame buttons to mark the start and end point of a sequence. If you have marked a point, you can repeat the previous steps and also mark the second point with a key frame.
- If you have marked a certain area of the video, you can cut it out with the keyboard with [Ctrl] + [X], copy it with [Ctrl] + [C], paste it elsewhere with [Ctrl] + [V] or delete it completely with [Del].
- Click on "File" in the menu bar at the top left and select the "Save as AVI" option. The cut film is then saved. If you have just made a simple cut, you can speed up the process under the "Video" category with the "Direct stream copy" option.
VirtualDub: Convert videos
- A real video conversion cannot be realized with VirutalDub. All content edited in VirtualDub can only be saved in AVI format.
- If you have inserted a video in VirtualDub or used images and GIF files, these can only be saved as AVI. To do this, click on "File" at the top left and select the "Save as AVI" option.
- If you want to convert your video into another format, other software can help you. The free Freemake Video Converter quickly and easily converts videos into numerous formats.
