Virus danger: Detect fake o2 bill as spam
Fake o2 bills are often sent as spam emails. We'll show you how to expose the fake news and act correctly.
Detect fake o2 bill
There are a few pointers to help you identify a fake invoice. If you are not an o2 customer at all, you can ignore the invoice immediately.
- Sender: First check the sender. If this doesn't sound serious or has nothing to do with o2, this is a first indication. However, it is also possible for the sender of the spam mail to display o2's apparently real mail address as the sender.
- Spelling: If you find even the smallest spelling mistake, you can expect a spam email. Spelling mistakes are unlikely to happen at a company of this size.
- Names and numbers: If your customer number or your name is incorrect, this is also an indication. If the head of the customer center signed the email, google for it. The alleged spam mail service managers are often already known online.
- Attachment: If the attachment is packed in a RAR or ZIP file, do not open it under any circumstances. Viruses that start themselves can be located here. If you receive an invoice from o2, it is attached as a PDF document.
- Links: You should not open the links directly either. With a right click on the link you can copy it and paste it anywhere on the computer. If the link does not start with "//www.o2online.de/", please do not open the page.
Fake o2 bill - and now?
- Even if the message comes from a supposedly reputable email address, you should check the email for the points mentioned above. If you notice several aspects mentioned above, it is most likely spam.
- If you have any doubts about your decision or would like to play it safe, you can contact the o2 customer service. This can confirm the possible authenticity.
- If you have already fallen for the spam mail, you should check your computer for viruses as soon as possible. The free programs AdwCleaner and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware are suitable for this.
