Virus in circulation in Facebook Messenger: you need to know
A nasty virus is currently being spread via Facebook Messenger. You need to know this so that you are spared data theft and other troubles.
Data theft with Facebook message
As is often the case on Facebook, unsuspecting victims are fooled into believing that they are getting a message from a friend.
- Basically, you should always be suspicious when you say you receive a message from a friend who doesn't address you personally. Instead, the message is very short and impersonal. Neither does he call you by name, because the sender of course doesn't know that.
- Usually, the senders try to arouse your curiosity and encourage you to click a link. For example, the short message could simply be "look".
- If you click on the link, you will land on a page where you should enter your access data again. Another variant is that you are asked to install software on your computer.
- The police in Lower Saxony strongly warn against responding to such dubious news, because you can easily become the victim of data theft.
- If you have already received a message like this and downloaded the software or logged in on the specified page, you have to act quickly. Change the password of your Facebook account immediately. If you have already installed software, uninstall it immediately and have a virus scanner scan the hard drive immediately.
