Virus encrypts files: you can do that
If a virus has encrypted all files on your computer, you need special software to decrypt it. We'll show you how to get your data back for free.
Ransomware: Virus encrypts files
- Such viruses are ransomeware. Once the malware has made it into your system, all files are encrypted using a complicated algorithm.
- Money in the form of BitCoins is often required to release the files. Claims of a hundred euros and more are not uncommon.
- If you pay for the release of your data, you have no guarantee that it will actually be released again. However, there are also many free ways to remove the virus and decrypt the files.
- Note: Very new or very persistent ransomeware cannot be decrypted or not yet. Shut down the computer and wait a few more weeks for a solution or reinstall Windows. In the best case scenario, you would have backed up your data before the infection.
Step 1: restore files encrypted by virus
- First you should remove the encryption with a suitable tool. Start with Panda Ransomware Decrypt. If that doesn't work, you can also use the Kaspersky RannohDecryptor.
- The programs are relatively easy to use. Ideally, you will find an unencrypted version of an already encrypted file on a USB stick or in cloud storage. This increases your chances of success in decoding.
Step 2: remove ransomeware on Windows
- Numerous virus scanners are suitable for removing the ransomeware. The Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program is free and extremely reliable.
- The Ransomware Removal Kit can also help with the removal. The tool specializes exclusively in such cases.
